External systemIntegrated payment
This replaced auctions run in chat groups, where identity was a claim and payment was a promise.
Solid outline: built and run by us. Dashed: an external system the flow depends on.
The business
Jual Lelang Fauna is an auction marketplace for Indonesia’s fauna and flora trade — a market that already existed, spread across chat groups, with no structure and no protection for either side.
The challenge
Buying and selling animals and plants in Indonesia happened across scattered chat groups, with no protection for either side and no way to run a fair auction. The market needed live bidding, verified identities and payments people trusted — on the phone they already carry.
- 01
A chat group is not an auction
Bids in a group thread have no guaranteed order, no visible close and no way to prove what was bid when. A real auction needs one authority on what the current bid is, updating for everyone at the same moment.
- 02
Identity was whatever someone claimed
In the market this replaced, both sides were whoever they said they were. Verified accounts and moderation had to exist before integrated payment could mean anything.
- 03
The market runs on mid-range phones and slow connections
Live bidding is the least forgiving thing to run over a weak connection, and this market is photograph-driven — buyers judge an animal or a plant on images. Image handling had to be tuned for that rather than assumed.
- 04
Distance is part of the transaction, not a shipping detail
For live goods, how far apart buyer and seller are helps decide whether the trade is viable at all.
What we did
We built cross-platform mobile apps with a real-time auction engine, verified accounts, integrated payments, image handling tuned for slow connections, notifications for bid activity, location-based matching between buyer and seller, and a moderation dashboard. Bilingual from launch.
What we built
A real-time auction engine
One authority on the current bid, updating every watcher live.
Verified accounts
Identity established before a member can transact.
Integrated payments
Settlement through the platform rather than a private transfer.
Image handling for slow connections
A photograph-driven market that still loads on a mid-range phone.
Bid activity notifications
Members learn they have been outbid, which is what keeps an auction alive.
Location-based matching
Buyers and sellers matched with distance treated as a real constraint.
A moderation dashboard
Tools for the operators to police listings and members.
Bilingual from launch
Two languages from the first release rather than a translation pass afterwards.
