The business
Langaroo is a social platform built on the premise that the language you speak should not decide who you can talk to. Members post, message and broadcast in their own language and reach people who do not share it.
The challenge
Langaroo wanted a social network where you could post in your own language and be understood anywhere — with live video, payments and travel discovery in the same place. That meant native apps on both platforms and real-time infrastructure from day one, not bolted on later.

Translation cannot be bolted on later
If the feed is translated but messages are not, the promise breaks at the first place a user tests it. Translation had to sit underneath everything — feed, direct messages, live video — which makes it an architectural decision rather than a feature screen.

Real-time and global pull against each other
Chat, voice, video and livestream all have to feel immediate, for a community spread across time zones and network conditions. That means the real-time infrastructure exists in the first release; retrofitting it later means rebuilding the product around it.

Native on both platforms, rather than one compromise twice
Live video and voice are exactly where cross-platform abstractions leak. iOS and Android were built natively so neither had to inherit the other’s limitations.

Money raises the stakes on identity
Peer-to-peer payments inside a social product turn sign-in, identity and moderation from conveniences into controls. Sign-in still had to work through whichever channel a member actually has, without weakening any of that.
What we did
We built the iOS and Android apps natively, the web application, and the services behind them: real-time chat, voice, video and livestream; instant translation across the feed and messages; peer-to-peer payments; and an admin console for moderating a global community. Sign-in works through whichever channel a user actually has.
